First of all, I've got to give a huge shout out to my best friend, Janice, for introducing me to this awesome food.

Goetta (pronounced "get-uh") is a traditional German breakfast meat. It is common in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. It is a sausage type food that is made up of ground meat, stone ground oats and a variety of spices. It is one of those foods that either you really like it or you really don't.
I really do! Janice doesn't! It's probably a good thing that I only get it when visiting Northern, Kentucky. It is served in restaurants there as a breakfast meat and is available in select grocery stores. It is packaged like ordinary breakfast sausage - but there's nothing ordinary about it.
I am trying to think of something to compare it to, but I am seriously drawing a blank here.
This food is so popular in that area that they even have festivals celebrating it! I have yet to go to Goetta-Fest, but someday I will!
So have you ever tried Goetta? Do you love it or hate it? What are some regional foods in your area?
