We all envision warm cozy fires and mugs of hot chocolate. It is the ideal drink for chilly evenings and for warming our hands at the football games. Who doesn't think about hot chocolate while watching the snow fall outside of the window.

Growing up, hot chocolate was not just a cold weather drink. We drank hot chocolate or cocoa all of the time. We drank it for breakfast. We drank it at night. We are always talking about comfort food, hot chocolate was our comfort drink.
Sometimes we had hot chocolate packets to make individual cups, but usually we had a big container of hot chocolate mix that my mother would stir up. It was a convenient, time and money saving, mix that would hold up well when stored in an air tight container.
Before I share this magical concoction with you, I have to add that the best hot chocolate memories were of the hot chocolate my grandmother made. It was an old fashioned recipe that I will share with you in a future post.
Here is the hot chocolate mix that my mother always made and kept on hand for us.
8 qt. Box dried milk
1 lb. Chocolate drink mix (such as Nestle Quick)
1 lb. Powdered sugar
6 oz. Powdered Coffee Mate
Mix all together in a large bowl. Mix ½ cup of the mixture in a mug with hot water. Store in an airtight container.
Not only is it more economical than the individual packets of cocoa, the flavor is outstanding.
